Electricity Markets Authority); two independent members (appointed by the Chairman);
two consumer members (appointed by energywatch); five industry members (elected

Grid).
A further industry member can be appointed if, in the opinion of the Chairman, the
interests of any class or category of Party is not reflected in the Panel composition.
A representative appointed by Distribution System Operators, a representative from
Ofgem and the Chief Executive of ELEXON are entitled to attend and speak at meetings

BSC Panel Members 2006-2008
The members of the BSC Panel have over 200 years of combined industry experience
- in some instances their individual experience goes back 40 years. Some members
have worked in electricity markets in other countries. This means that there is
a thorough understanding on the Panel of how the present energy markets function
and also how the industry has evolved.
Elected Panel Members, the Transmission Company Panel Member, and the DSO Representative
bring to Panel meetings their experience of all aspects of the industry including
generation, supply, transmission, distribution, trading, regulatory and governmental
developments, operational and technical expertise, as well as inside knowledge of
other industry codes in both electricity and in gas.
Independent Panel Members are appointed to provide additional expertise and the
perspective of other markets. One Member is currently Emeritus Professor of Finance
at the LSE and has served as Special Advisor to the Governor of the Bank of England.
The other Independent Panel Member has specialised in issues of corporate governance
and board effectiveness, with a special interest in audit. The Consumer Panel Members
are appointed to provide a perspective on the customer experience (the present members
come with previous experience of the energy sector).
On appointment/election, Panel Members undertake an induction programme tailored
to those areas of the BSC with which they may not be so familiar, and this knowledge
is renewed through further presentations when any new issue is due to be presented
to the Panel meetings.
