Output Usable Data

On this page you can download files that contain Output Usable data by System Zone
and on a National basis.
Each Production BM Unit has a Registered Capacity, showing the maximum it can generate.
However, there are times when a Unit goes on a planned outage where some or all of
this capacity is unavailable. “Output Usable” is the portion of the Unit’s capacity
that is expected to be available. Formal definitions of these terms can be found
in the
Glossary and Definitions section of the Grid Code.
To view Output Usable data please select a file type and whether you wish to view
the information on a National or System Zone basis by using the drop down menu below.
The following types of Output Usable information are available. In each case, the
file date is the first date for which the data is effective for, and separate files
are produced for National and System Zone data.
- 2-14 Days ahead: The daily peak half hour MW value of Output Usable for each
day from the second to the 14th day following the current Operational Day. The six
previous files will be available to download.
- 2-49 Days ahead: The daily peak half hour MW value of Output Usable for each
day from the second to the 49th day following the current Operational Day. This
information is produced on an ad-hoc basis.
- 2-52 Weeks ahead: The weekly peak half hour MW value for the peak Settlement
Period for each week from the second to the 52nd week following the current week.
The three previous files will be available to download.
- 1-5 Years ahead: The weekly peak half hour MW value of Output Usable for
each week, in separate files for the first, second, third, fourth and fifth year
ahead. The latest file for each year will be available to download.
You can request any historical Output Usable data since 2 April 2002 that is not
displayed here by contacting the BSC Service Desk on 0870 010 6950 or by emailing
bscservicedesk@logica.com. You should also contact the BSC Service Desk if you have
any difficulty in viewing the displayed data.
System Zone Maps
The current and historic System Zone Maps are published in the table below. When
using these maps with the Output Usable data, please check the map’s effective date
matches the publication date of the data. You can also view a list of which OC2
zone(s) each BM Unit currently lies in.

Please note: The eight OC2 zones (A-G and S) are typical system constraint boundaries, but do not geographically cover the whole GB transmission system. There are gaps not covered by any of these eight zones, so it is not possible to add up the eight zones and produce the national GB figure.
BMRS Zone Map
We’ve also mapped all BM Units to the zones available on the BMRS. This data can be found at www.bmreports.com in the Zonal Data menu.
