Transmission Loss Parameters

Transmission Loss Factor (TLF)

The value of the Transmission Loss Factor for each BM Unit has been set at 0.

The Transmission Loss Factor is that factor used to allocate transmission losses on a location basis to each BM Unit in each Settlement Period for the calculation of Transmission Loss Multipliers (TLMs).

The value of the Transmission Loss Factor may be amended by an Approved Modification.

Coefficient

The value for Coefficient a has been set at 0.45.

The value of the Coefficient a may be amended by an Approved Modification.

Coefficient a is used to determine the split of transmission losses between Balancing Mechanism Units that are delivering and those that are off taking. The coefficient is applied in the calculation of the transmission loss multipliers (TLMs). In other words, currently 45% of transmission losses are allocated to delivering BM Units and the remaining 55% are allocated to off taking BM Units.

The Transmission Loss Multiplier (TLM) is applied to a BM Unit’s Metered Volume in order to adjust for Transmission Losses. Although TLMij is defined as a BM Unit-Settlement Period level variable, there are only two values for TLM per Settlement Period:

  1. for BM Units belonging to Trading Units that are off-taking Trading Units in the Settlement Period, and
  2. for BM Units belonging to Trading Units that are delivering Trading Units in the Settlement Period.

This is because the Transmission Loss Factor (TLFij) used in the calculation of TLM, is defined as zero for all BM Units.

The formulas for calculating Transmission Loss Multipliers are set out in PDF IconBSC Section T(321Kb) Paragraph 2.3.1.

Estimated Transmission Losses Adjustments

These parameters are set for purposes of BMRS reporting. These parameters are the estimated values of the ‘Delivering Transmission Losses Adjustment’ (TLMOj+), and the ‘Off taking Transmission Losses Adjustment’ (TLMOj-). The historic values are listed in the table below.

The Balancing Mechanism Reporting Service (BMRS) is used to display near real-time information relating to the operation of the Balancing Mechanism (BM).

The ISG reviews the ETLMO values from time to time on behalf of the BSC Panel.
