Ofgem is the regulator for Britain's gas and electricity
industries. Its role is to protect and advance the interests of
consumers by promoting competition where possible, and through
regulation only where necessary. Applying this principle has
resulted in great benefits for all gas and electricity
customers. To build on these benefits, Ofgem's work focuses on
the following areas:
Making gas and electricity markets work
effectively
Regulating monopoly businesses intelligently
Securing Britain's gas and electricity supplies
Meeting its increased social and environmental
responsibilities

Every Ofgem department works to its own Service Level
Agreements (SLA). The Resource Information Centre (RIC) is
often the first point of contact for an external enquiry and
takes on most queries. If it is not one for Ofgem, they will
try to direct the enquirer to the best source of
information.
The RIC work to a SLA that requires all external enquiries
should receive an acknowledgement within 5 days and a
substantive response within 30 days.
