More functionality added to Digital Code in August 2024 release
As part of our ongoing development of the Digital Code we have introduced some more enhancements that we hope will improved your experience of the service. Here’s what we’ve been working on for August.
Obsolete Documents
To date, the Digital Code site has only displayed the current live versions of the BSC or the previous versions of those documents. We can now display documents that have previously been made obsolete. The benefit of this is that you will be able to view documents that are no longer being used but may still have some kind of historical value.
When viewing an obsolete document there will be a red banner at the bottom of the screen that will tell you the document status and when the Effective To Date was. This will ensure that you can see that the document is no longer being used.

Document status enhancements
We have introduced the document status and Effective To Date as fields displayed at the top of the document. This area also includes the Effective From Date and version number. other statuses that will be displayed in this field will include whether the document is set to Future, Live and Superseded.

Superseded Document
Superseded documents (previous versions) have been part of the Digital Code since it’s inception. We understand that some customers navigate to content via search engine results and may be directed to previous versions of our documents.
To make viewing the current version easy for customers, we have introduced a hyperlink in the banner at the bottom of the page that can be clicked to direct to the current live version.

Improving the reading pane
To make it easier to read our digital documents, we’re improving the background colour on the left and right hand columns . By introducing a darker colour to both, the document reading area is more focused on the content.

Removing some download buttons
We’ve had feedback from customers using text readers that they have a negative experience where download is read multiple times.
We have therefore removed the download buttons from the document listing pages. However, the download button will still be available in the individual document page.

Opening and closing the navigation tree
This fixes an issue where when the left hand pane is opened the position of the button changes making it confusing to close it again.

Cross references
When opening a 6th message the bar will remind you that you can’t open another before closing another reference, also it will highlight if you’re opening the same reference twice.

Future Developments
Here’s what we’re working on next for release in September:
- Scroll through historical versions – Easily scroll back through past versions of documents
- Filter before search – Filter searches based on document types
- Announcements, Roadmap and Ideas – A new tool to communicate what’s planned with Digital Code and a way for you to submit ideas on what to incorporate into our roadmap
We hope these updates make your experience with the Digital Code site even better.
