The Digital Code site is a one-stop shop for our customers to easily and quickly understand their obligations, the market arrangements, and the development of changes. Offering our customers an interactive, customisable and intelligent unified content collection from Elexon.
Our Vision
- Elexon’s Digital Code will innovate code management by being the master version of all customer facing Elexon documents.
- Digital Code will integrate with Elexon’s other product offerings to provide a consistent & seamless customer experience through Elexon’s product portfolio.
- We will radically simplify the document & change management processes to keep customers informed and involved.
- Digital Code will continue to empower customers to understand their obligations in a dynamically changing electricity market to make the best decisions for their businesses and customers.
Product Outcomes
Over the next 3 years we aim to achieve the following outcomes with development for Digital Code:
- Implement a single, authoritative source for all Elexon documents so that customers can interact with all content efficiently and intuitively
- Integrate Digital Code into the suite of Elexon products to provide a seamless customer experience
- Simplify Document and Change Management Processes so customers can understand change in a more transparent and informed way
- Enhance usability features developed so customers can interact with the legal text in a more intuitive and useful way
- Empower customers in the evolving electricity market so that they can fulfil their obligations and support their customers
What’s new
Scroll through versions
We’ve introduced two new buttons to scroll through versions of the text. This will simplify being able to review those documents.
Watermarking Superseded PDFs
When downloading a previous version of a Digital Code document it will contain a watermark to support customers that they may not be looking at the current version of the document.
Customer feedback
We are implementing an ideas tool that will appear on the right hand side of the screen with the text ‘What’s New’. This will open a tool where you can review ideas that have already been raised or suggest your own. You can vote on other ideas which will help us understand what is the most important to you.

Current functionality
The following developments were delivered in the initial site:
- View and easily navigate your way around the entire BSC document collection (~400 documents and 9k pages), which now sits together as one searchable collection
- You can choose which specific document types to search across
- You can understand BSC Defined terms (as per the BSC glossary in Section X1 and X-2) by clicking any underlined term
- Choose to see secondary definitions and definitions of formulas
- Cross-references within the BSC are also hyper-linked
- Quick access to BSCPs
- Ability to maintain and expand the document collection with ‘clicks of buttons’ – no manual tagging or maintenance required
- You can display cross-references within the BSC in a side bar within the existing window rather than in a new browser tab
In 2024, we have delivered the following developments to further enhance the Digital Code:
- Additional search features – including search this page and highlighting search terms
- Scroll to top – for easier navigation
- Feedback pop-up – to gather your valuable feedback
- Document Status Changes – to easily see the current status, effective from date, and effective to date of documents
- Obsolete Documents – to access retired texts that are still useful to customers
- Enhancements to the navigation tree – to improve the view of the reading pane and better highlighting of clicked cross references
- Improving the reading pane – to make it easier to read our digital documents
- Cosmetic enhancements – around the download button, cross referencing and the button to open or close the navigation tree
In development
- Release of DIP documents in it’s own collection with defined terms
- Watermarking PDFs for obsolete documents
- Simplifying navigation to different versions of the documents rather than having to click the previous or next version buttons multiple time
- Improving the document listing page to easily see what documents are in each collection and being able to collapse the descriptive text
Future functionality
- Role based filtering at document level
- AI chatbot to get you simple answers on BSC documents quickly
- Customer log-ins (optional) to provide you with customisation and personalisation opportunities
- Role based filtering to allow you to filter to the content that is important to you
- Related content to allow you to access complementary documents and products related to the Digital Code material
- Digital Data Catalogue to allow you to access information on flows in a modern and interactive way
- Creating and displaying the baseline statement
- Improving the links between the defined terms of the Digital Code collections and the BSC glossaries
