CP1551 ‘Measuring Instruments Regulations – updates to BSCP601’

As of 1 January 2021 the requirements for new Meters being placed on the market in Great Britain (GB) have changed. All new Meter designs, which would previously have been Measurement Instruments Directive (MID) approved and placed on the market in GB must have the UKCA (UK Conformity Assessed) mark. New Meters must also be approved against the requirements of the Measuring Instruments Regulations (MIR) (SI 2016/1153), as amended by the Product Safety & Metrology etc (Amendment etc.) Regulations (EU Exit) (SI 2019/696) legislation, which follows the basic requirements as listed for MID meters.

BSCP601 ‘Metering Protocol Approval and Compliance Testing’ still includes references to the outdated requirements for new Meters. This CP proposes to amend BSCP601 so it aligns with new Government policy.

CP1551 was implemented on 24 February 2022 as part of the standard February 2022 BSC release. 

The CP1551 Assessment Report was presented to the ISG and SVG at their respective meetings on 7 December 2021. CP1551 was approved for implementation on 24 February 2022 as part of the standard February 2022 BSC release. 

CP1551 was issued for Industry Consultation on Monday 11 October 2021 with responses invited by Friday 5 November 2021.

The CP Consultation for CP1551 has now closed. The Assessment report will be presented to the ISG and SVG for decision on 7 December 2021. 

CP1551 Progression Paper was presented to the Imbalance Settlement Group (ISG) and  Supplier Volume Allocation Group (SVG) at their meetings on 5 October 2021. Both committees agreed to progress the CP to the Consultation phase.
