Glossary Term: Meter

An electricity meter is a device that measures the amount of electric energy consumed by a residence, business, or any electrically powered device over a specific period of time. Electric utility companies install meters at premises to monitor and bill for electricity usage.

Metering Systems accurately record the flow of electricity to (an Import) or from (an Export) a site. Metering System data is used to calculate energy imbalance charges. These charges are applied to BSC Parties who use more or less energy than they have contracted to buy or generate.
