ELEXON has announced that Michael Gibbons will continue to serve as Balancing and Settlement Code (BSC) Panel and ELEXON Board Chairman for a further three year period when his current tenure expires at the end of September 2019.
Reappointment helps deliver changes
The announcement follows a series of discussions between the Balancing and Settlement Code Panel and the ELEXON Board. The reappointment has also been approved by energy regulator Ofgem.
ELEXON believes Michael’s continued Board and Panel leadership will play an important role in helping to deliver significant changes that will benefit the energy sector.
These include ELEXON’s work on the implementation of Market-Wide Half-Hourly Settlement which will help the industry and consumers get the full benefit of using smart meters.
Both the Panel and ELEXON work extensively to develop changes to the BSC which support the transition to a smarter market. In addition a key priority for ELEXON is also to work closely with the Government and Ofgem to deliver the outcomes of the energy codes review.

Our aims are to ensure that these changes support innovation and better outcomes for the industry and consumers.
