Wellbeing and work-life balance

Glossary

Elexon understands the importance of a good work-life balance as this helps fulfil the requirements to our staff to have a job that meets their needs. Research shows that this balance is essential for a company’s own wellbeing and will result in a positive and engaged workforce.

Health and wellbeing benefits

We are keen to promote health and wellbeing opportunities for our staff and would encourage people to consider taking advantage of any of the following:

  • BUPA health check
  • private healthcare
  • cycle to work scheme
  • subsidised gym membership
  • dental insurance
  • eye care voucher scheme

Flexible working

Elexon operates a flexible working scheme which is open to all staff and based on typical criteria.

Examples of working hours:

  • condensed hours
  • regular or occasional working from home
  • agreed early start or early finishing

However, it is worth noting that Elexon does not promote the culture of “start early, leave late”. There are a set of core hours but how these are achieved is down to workload and personal requirements.

Working from home

All company laptops can be taken home if necessary to help staff take advantage of flexible working arrangements. There are obvious IT restrictions about using computers at home but these are not usually an issue that prevents someone from working from home.

Holidays

Elexon offers a generous enhancement to the statutory leave allowance staff enjoys a leave allocation of up to 32 days depending on pay band and years of services plus the 8 bank holidays.

Buying and selling days

As part of a recent staff survey, Elexon has introduced a scheme which allows staff to buy and sell 5 days leave a year. There is a “selling season” which takes in December-January although you will still be able to buy holiday throughout the year based on workload and individual commitments.

Employee assistance programme

Elexon provides a support programme to its entire staff to help deal with everyday challenges at home and in their working lives.

It is a confidential service, run independently by Health Assured, a leading provider of Employee Assistance Programmes in the UK.
