This page details the developments regarding digitalising market entry and registrations, also known as Elexon Kinnect.
Our vision is to develop an improved customer experience when entering the market, exiting the market and registering with the Balancing and Settlement Code (BSC).
Digitalising market entry and registrations
Elexon Kinnect is our new digital platform that modernises the technical architecture of the BSC central systems. Elexon Kinnect is a flexible and scalable digital platform that will enhance BSC’s settlement and balancing services. The Platform will deliver three main functions:
- Customer Solution
- Settlement Solution
- Insights Solution – this will also allow BSC Parties to self-manage their own accounts and gain insights from BSC and BMRS data.
Customer Solution
The Customer Solution is the functionality that is being made available on Elexon Kinnect to assist BSC parties to self-manage their accounts or to digitally go through the process enter and/or exit the market.
This functionality is currently being trialled internally, before launching to the wider industry in early 2021. This will be a function of the new Platform to provide an online service for customers who are considering entering the market, registering assets such as Balancing Mechanism (BM) Units or exiting the market.
How it relates to you
As part of Market Entry, companies need to accede to the BSC, provide and register key information such as the authorised signatories, market roles and their energy assets such as Trading Units or BM Units. Currently, this process is heavily paper-based. The online service aims to provide digital forms with self-service access to your market entry and asset registrations data along with a guided process through the various routes you can take when registering different market roles.

- Elexon and customer interfaces for Market Exit processes available internally to Elexon’s Operations team
- Elexon and customer interfaces for Registering Assets available internally to Elexon’s Operations team
- Elexon and customer interfaces for TERRE and Wider Access
- Elexon and customer interfaces for GC/DC declarations and breach disputes
Next steps
In November we will be inviting a small number of parties to join our User Group to help trial the Customer Solution service we are developing for all BSC market participants.
In early 2021 we will launch the Customer Solution to all industry parties.
Objectives of the digitalisation programme
Our digitalisation programme is re-architecting our central systems to deliver a flexible and scalable platform to provide settlement and other value-added services to meet the future needs of a changing energy market. Elexon’s digitalisation programme was formerly known as the Foundation Programme.
