Gross Supplier Market Share Data reports

Glossary

Elexon publish a quarterly summary of each Supplier’s quarterly energy volume and average Meter Point Administration Number (MPAN) count. This allows customers to understand a Supplier’s market share of import and export electricity volumes and MPAN count.

The graphs may take a couple of seconds to load. To expand the graphs featured on the page, tap the double-headed arrow in the bottom right corner of the graph.

About the data

The data is reported across a set of Supplier Consumption Reporting Groups as defined in Section X-9 of the Balancing and Settlement Code (BSC) using data from the R1 Run at a national (GB) level only. It is not broken down by GSP Group. R1 data is available two months after the quarter, therefore there is a delay in publishing the latest quarter.

The data was first published for Q3 in 2016 as a result of BSC Modification P315 ‘Suppliers’ Meter Volume and MPAN counts’. We are unable to provide data before this date.

There are reporting thresholds for which suppliers can be included in the report. The supplier must have either or both of the below requirements:

  • An average number of Profile Class 1 and 2 MPANs over the reporting quarter of 250,000 or more; or
  • An aggregated consumption volume across Profile Classes 3 to 8 and Half Hourly (HH) customers over the reporting quarter of 500GWh or more.

The average number of MPAN’s and electricity volume of any Supplier that does not meet this requirement are aggregated as ‘Other Suppliers’.

The full list of supplier consumption reporting groups for each supplier is given below.
