CP1589 Create Additional Market Participant Role Codes
Formal title: Change the number of characters used to specify Market Participant Role Codes in the Market Domain Data’
Market Participant Role Code’ is a single character alphanumeric value which is used as a unique identifier for certain Market Roles. There are 36 possible Role Codes to be allocated to different Market Participant Roles, which are defined in the Market Domain Data (MDD). In order for new Market Roles to be created in the future, a change to the format of the ‘Market Participant Role Code’ Data Item is required to increase the number of available Role Codes. Moving to a two-character alphanumeric value would provide hundreds of new potential Market Participant Role Codes.
The current limitation of 36 alphanumeric values for ‘Market Participant Role Codes’ has reached its capacity, with all codes either actively in use or reserved for the MHHS Programme. This saturation presents a significant challenge as the energy market evolves, necessitating the creation of new Market Roles to accommodate emerging technologies and market arrangements. CP1589 proposes a strategic solution to this impasse by expanding the ‘Market Participant Role Code’ from a single character to a two-character alphanumeric format within the Market Domain Data (MDD). This expansion would exponentially increase the number of available codes, ensuring the energy market’s infrastructure can support future growth and innovation. The implementation of this change is critical to maintaining the market’s adaptability and the seamless introduction of new participants and processes.
